The Most Magical Cake on Earth

The Most Magical Cake on Earth

Picture this, the year is 1996 you're walking up to the main gate of Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. You're fidgeting around in your pocket to find your ticket. The smell of popcorn fills the air, the sound of excitement hums through your ears. You walk through the tunnel that reads, "Here You Leave Today and Enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow And Fantasy." You stare at the ground making sure you're not running into small children who are scurrying with excitement. Here comes the moment you've been waiting for, as you slowly raise your head, and put your hand over your brow to block out the sun, and you see it. The Most Magical.... Cake on Earth?

Towering above is a wall of sugary sweetness glistening in the hot Florida sun. As a child you can only dream about being able to jump into the real world of CandyLand. Disney's imagineers did just that. Cake Castle stands 189 feet high covered in over 400 gallons of pink paint. 26 birthday candles that ranged from 20ft-40ft tall covered the top of the tiers. Decorating the cake was no small job. It was covered in 15 candy stars, 16 gummy bears, 4 stacks of lifesavers, 30 lollipops, 62 gumdrops of various sizes, and over 1000 feet of inflatable blue and pink icing to top of the birthday cake look. Talk about a sugar rush.

Many Disney goers were not pleased with this reimagining. Spending months or even years planning their Disney trip to come see Cinderella in her castle but to be greeted by a giant cake was not what a lot of park goers were expecting. Disney knows that these milestones are ones to remember and a good way to get people talking and for the past 25 years they did just that. We remember this castle and we still talk about it. Cake Castle in all of her sugary glory is definitely one for the books.
